Keep an eye on moisture.
After periods of heavy rain, check that water isn’t collecting underneath your pumpkins.
Protect them from intense sun when possible.
A covered or partially shaded entryway can provide a more favorable environment than an area receiving hours of direct afternoon sunlight.
Check for soft spots.
Occasionally look at the bottoms and sides of the pumpkins, especially those touching the ground or another pumpkin.
Remove a pumpkin if it begins to deteriorate.
Taking out one pumpkin doesn’t ruin the design, and removing it can help protect the pumpkins surrounding it.
Keep decorative pumpkins uncarved.
Carving breaks the pumpkin’s protective exterior and significantly shortens how long it can remain attractive outdoors.
